What is PRSSA?
Founded in 1967, the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) provides over 10,000 students across 300-plus chapters with professional development through a vast network of professionals, internships and leadership opportunities.
PRSSA at Illinois
Beginning as the Illinois Public Relations Association, a student-run, non-profit organization, our main goal was to bring public relations to the Urbana-Champaign campus. Illinois PRA became the first PR organization and student organization sponsored by the Registered Student Organization on campus.
In 2012, The University of Illinois chartered a chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. As a pre-professional student organization, PRSSA at the University of Illinois aims to provide students by providing real-world experience through company visits, internship opportunities, industry professionals, and events.
The Illinois Chapter of PRSSA provides its members with opportunities with our student-run PR agency — working with real clients every semester, the Roger Ebert Film Festival internship — putting together an entire PR campaign for the festival, and our annual networking trip to Chicago.
How does it work?
The opportunity to join PRSSA opens up at the beginning of each semester. Check our social media and website for the link to register. Each week, our executive team plans one to three meetings, ranging from workshops to agency to Ebertfest. Members are encouraged to join multiple committees, if their schedule provides. To see a list of all committees PRSSA offers, click the join tab above.
